MY REGRETS

t’s two o’clock in the afternoon
I’m smoking on my second pack of cigarettes
I’m getting by by getting high
on alcohol intensified lorcets
I can hear my phone ring
but I just let the machine answer it
just leave a message at the tone
don’t feel like talking when I’m alone with my regrets

I sit by the window
look out and watch the children play
my mind takes me back there
to my childhood days
before complications worries
and troubles took control of it
those simple days are long gone
and time keeps on marching on with my regrets

I look in the mirror
what do I see
a weary old man
looking back at me
I think about some things I’ve done
I wish I could forget
way too long I’ve let them slide
now there’s nowhere that I can hide from my regrets

I had an old friend
who checked out of this world last year
I would give anything
if my old friend was still here
I should have been there for him
maybe I could’ve talked him out of it
I think about it every day
but I just can’t find a way to pray about my regrets

I look in the mirror
what do I see
a weary old man
looking back at me
I think about some things I’ve done
I wish I could forget
way too long I’ve let them slide
now there’s nowhere that I can hide from my regrets

I’m getting by by getting high
on alcohol intensified lorcets…..Awesome lyrics!!! I love your these lyrics!!!!!!

Toney, I always enjoy hearing the raspy quality in your voice! You have some very crafty lyric writing here. I especially liked this one “I’m getting by by getting high”

I like the chord changes with “ I look in the mirror…

Some nice guitar chops here as well!

As the song was going along I was thinking just another song about “Regrets” right. We all have them. So get over it and life goes on! But then a huge turn-around when you laid this bomb on us: “I had an old friend…
… maybe I could’ve talked him out of it!”

Wow! That was a power verse that turned this song personal and emotional! Great impact!

Good song Toney! Keep em coming! Bob

Thanks G, I’m glad you like it. That’s Stuart Pendergast on the guitar. I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis for 23 yrs. and my hands have gotten so crippled I can’t play much anymore. I have to use a chord attachment just to play rhythm, so I just take what I can do and do the best I can with it. thanks again…Toney

HEY TONEY, REMINDS ME OF OLD DAYS WITH BOB DYLAN. INTERESTING LYRICS, I’M A SUCKER FOR LONG SONGS, THEY DRAW YOU INTO THE STORY LINE AFTER A WHILE AND YOU WANT TO HEAR MORE. WE ALL GO THRU LIFE WITH REGRETS AND THIS SONG STRIKES THE HEARTS OF US ALL!
GREAT JOB!
